Alpha PHI
Alpha Phi was established at Syracuse University in the year 1872 by ten founding members. Alpha Phi has grown immensely since then, now having over 280,000 members and 174 collegiate chapters. Alpha Phi follows four High Ideals of Membership, “Sisterhood that lasts a lifetime, striving for innovation, practicing generosity at every turn, and high expectations of character.” The mission statement for Alpha Phi reads, “Alpha Phi is a loyal sisterhood of women courageously pursuing limitless excellence.” Alpha Phi’s philanthropy is focused on supporting women’s heart health. In 1965, Alpha Phi established the Alpha Phi Foundation which aids in their philanthropy efforts, and they have successfully raised over $2 million in support of heart health for women.
The Eta Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi was founded at UNCW on March 18, 1989. Alpha Phi has hosted two philanthropy events this semester, Hoops for Health and their annual Red Dress Gala. Both events increased awareness towards the importance for women’s heart health, and the Red Dress Gala raised an impressive $25,500!
